Origins of Chun Shui Tang
The trailblazer of the tea culture revolution,
credited with crafting Taiwan's inaugural cup of foam black tea.
Chun Shui Tang was founded by Mr. Liu, Han-Chieh on May 20, 1983.
The first store was located on Siwei Street in Taichung. Initially, it was named “Yangxian Tea Shop”.
In the early days of its establishment, Chun Shui Tang sold cold tea drinks, unheard of in the Taiwanese tea industry. Drawing inspiration from Western-style bars and blending it with centuries-old tea-drinking traditions from the East, Chun Shui Tang boldly introduced the technique of shaking tea drinks with a shaker, daringly transformed traditional hot tea into refreshing sweetened iced tea, creating the first cup of cold tea, “Foam Black Tea”. This innovation sparked a revolutionary catalyst in tea culture, captivating enthusiasts and pioneering the trend of cold tea drinks with its refreshing appeal.
The Spirit of Chun Shui Tang
The world is the only paradise, and within it, the tea house stands as an earthly haven.
As ancient poetry goes: “Brewing wine with pine flowers, brewing tea with spring water”. Using pine tree flowers to make wine and spring water to brew tea creates delightful flavors made in heaven.
The founder hoped to embody the sentiment of treating guests with spring water, as expressed in Du Fu's poem “Arriving as a Guest”: “South of my hut, north of my hut, all is spring water, a flock of gulls is all I see come each day, today for the first time the gate opens for the gentleman.....”
Timeless taste, modern pursuit
Founder Mr. Liu, Han-Chieh once remarked, “Tea culture isn't merely history; a new era of tea culture is on the horizon”. With tea-drinking becoming a lifestyle choice, rich in diversity and intrigue, tea culture transcends its historical boundaries. It presents boundless opportunities for the future, and we are all participants in this evolving trend.
